First Garden

We are also planting our first garden at our new house.  Jacob and I have wanted to plant one for a long time and now we finally have the space to do it.  The more I learn about gardening, the more overwhelmed I feel.  But, we have started very small and we are planning to learn as we go...hopefully!  I read the book Square Foot Gardening a few years ago so we are implementing this method.  Hopefully we will be rewarded in yummy vegetables for our hard work and that I'll have a bountiful garden to post about later in the summer!

Tommy next to the fence of our garden.  We have frequent visitors to our backyard such as bunnies and groundhogs.  Jacob eliminated the groundhog living under our deck last week so hopefully we won't have him to worry about anymore...  But we wanted to be cautious and put up a fence around our 4x8 plot for the bunnies and whatever else might visit.  I am finding out the fence also works quite well to keep the kids out as well when needed. :)

Jacob did a great job of pulling apart some pallets and building this plot, complete with the grid!

We did a fun Family Home Evening on gardens and faith.  We talked about planting seeds and how they grow and what they need to grow (sun, water) and about how Christ is important to us and how we can grow our faith.  The kids really enjoyed it and so did we!

 Pretty much adorable!
The kids love helping to water the garden and Claire is good at helping me to remember.
