I lost my cell phone on Monday after a bunch of us moms went to Farmpark with our babies. We had been all over the park, so I had no idea if I lost it at the park or somewhere along the way home because I had gotten out of the car twice before I got home. Luckily I am due for a phone upgrade in February so though I was really wanting my phone, I wouldn't have had to wait too long to get a new one. Well Jacob and I searched the car, diaper bag, mailbox area, called Farmpark, and even went out to the random place I stopped on the way home from Farmpark to take Claire shoes off (she was chewing on them). The phone was no where to be found...I really wasn't too hopeful that we would be able to find it. I kinda had a sick feeling I really lost it this time.
But late last night, a neighbor boy below us rang the doorbell and offered up my phone!! He found it in the snow somewhere outside of our apartments. I was so excited, but I couldn't get the cell phone to work or light up which was so weird because I had Jacob call the phone a million times and it rang, so it was working the whole day. Well I plugged it into the charger and that didn't help, but I noticed it seemed a little wet. So I took the battery out and sure enough, it was wet all inside. I thought "oh man, I have my phone, but now I still won't be able to save all my contacts and pictures." So I tried to blow dry my phone and that didn't help.
When Jacob got home from YM's he informed me that plugging it in when wet and trying to blow dry my phone are two really bad things to do. Dang it! He did a little research on the problem and found that people had successfully baked their phones in the oven on a really low temperature for a long time and then the cell phones worked again. Jacob baked my phone and guess what, it works!! I am so grateful to my smart and helpful husband for figuring this out for me! I love him so much and he really seems to solve so many of my problems (except for the ones he creates...lol!).
Just a side-note, I can go for a day or two with no one calling me and of course, the one time I lose my phone, FOUR people called me and really needed to talk to me. Just my luck...or theirs I suppose! :) Though I missed my phone for a full day and a half, I must admit, it was kind of nice not having to check it all the time to see if I missed anything. I definitely need to have more faith because I really think having someone return my phone, Jacob baking it in the oven, and then my phone working is a miracle! And...my contact list is now backed up online... :)

If you take the battery out and put both the phone (and some people put the battery, too) in a Tupperware type container filled with rice, let it sit for a couple days, and the rice absorbs the moisture out of the phone. Of course the big downside to this is that you have to go without your phone for another couple of days! :) I'm glad the baking worked though - I've never heard of that! We've used the rice for my phone once, and the TV remotes a few times (thank the dog for that one)!
ReplyDeleteEmily, we read about doing rice too and heard it works great. We decided to be more drastic and try baking it. I am so glad it worked, would have felt a little stupid if it didn't!
