I was asked to make Relief Society Welcome and Get Well/Thinking of You baskets for our church. I thought I would do a post about it because I thought others may find the list of items in the baskets useful for their church. It took me a while to come up with the items because I wanted to give items that were useful and not junk, but that didn't cost very much. I got the baskets at the Dollar Tree, 2/$1.00, they are about 4x4in.
Here is a picture of the Welcome basket with a list of the items below. This basket costs around $5.00 to make!
• Maps and information on local area and historical sites
• Memo pad with magnet on back – $1.00 at Wal-Mart
• Pirouettes – Dollar Tree
• Muffin Mix in bag – $0.89 Wal-Mart
• Candle – $1.00 jar at Wal-Mart
• 2 Dish Towels in bottom of basket - 18 pack at Wal-Mart for $4.00
• Pot holder crocheted by RS sisters. I put a tag on the rolled pot holder saying "Made with love from a Relief Society Sister"
• Welcome card. I wrote a paragraph on the back of the card welcoming them.
Here is a picture of the Get Well/Thinking of You basket with a list of the items below. This basket costs around $4.00 to make!
• Chicken Soup for the Soul book – Dollar Tree (A sudoku or crossword book would be good too)
• Tissues, small ones that come in 6 or 8 pack
• Hand Sanitizer – 2/$1 at Dollar Tree
• Chicken Soup with wild rice (Campbell’s Select Harvest), just something that seems healthy
• 2 Note cards – 1 thank you, 1 blank, for the person to write in. Often people who are ill want to express their thanks to those that are helping them
• Peppermints – a couple from a large bag tied in a Ziploc (top of Ziploc cut off) and tied with ribbon.
• 2 Dish Towels in bottom of basket - 18 pack at Wal-Mart for $4.00
• Get Well card. I wrote a paragraph on the back saying that these items were to encourage them and make them feel better and to let the ward know if they and their family needed anything.
Hope this might help someone out there in the world! Let me know if you have questions!

I'm so impressed by how you were able to keep the cost low and make the baskets so adorable and useful. In contrast, I just spent way too much money on bulletin board/newsletter stuff today...=( I feel like such an inept shopper next to you, Kristen. Bah. Teach me your skills?
